Why do Inka need their own preset?

It’s not so much that we need our own it’s more that the standard ones in the programs don’t always give printers what
 they need.

What’s different then?

Usually little things like bleed and trim marks (we don’t really need trim marks as the imposition software we use adds them) colour bars are not needed at all and can cause confusion for the RIP software colour is sometimes an issue (especially when RGB images are included or from desktop wordprocessing packages).

If you could make some considerations when designing your print that could help too.

We need 3mm of bleed all round (eg. an A4 document measures 297x210mm trimmed but 303x216mm with bleed) it is advisable to leave 5mm clearance from trim edge of anything you don’t want to risk being trimmed off or too close to trim edge. This is particularly important for stitched items of large numbers of pages where a “bulking” allowance must be made (ie the inner pages will trim shorter than the outer pages).

Large areas of black need an underpin of at least 40% cyan (preferably 30% magenta and yellow too)
NB if you are using an image with a “black” solid area and you place a feature over it to match in only black please note that the two colours may not match unless they are the same.

All images used should be CMYK (if they are to print in colour) and a minimum of 300ppi, less than that and the image may appear pixelated.

Please supply multi-page jobs as single pages (not spreads) and in the correct print order.

Remove any colours from the job that you are not using. If the job is CMYK only then please convert all colours to CMYK.

Varnishes and or cutter guides are best left in place as part of the artwork – the colours must be in your palette as “UV” and “cutter” and be spot colours, they must also be set to overprint.

Any transparency that has been applied in illustrator, indesign or freehand files needs to be flattened before making the pdf.

Anything that you want to be knocking out or overprinting you must pre-set in your artwork – we cannot always check for this and if it is not set correctly unexpected results can occur.

Please avoid text, pictures or graphics running across spreads (in stitched or perfect bound products) as the print tolerance is +/- 2mm in any direction, whilst we will endeavour to line up and match as best we can it cannot be guaranteed to be truly aligned.
